Root Canal Treatment in Liverpool
We provide a whole range of dental treatment to maintain a healthy and functional mouth. Some of the common treatment provided is discussed below.
Every tooth has a crown and a root. The root holds the tooth in the bone and gums. Inside the root, a hollow (canal) contains nerves and blood vessels (pulp) that give vitality to teeth.
When the damaged or injured dental pulp within a tooth becomes infected, endodontic treatment, also known as root canal treatment, is used to treat it. It keeps the infection from spreading and getting worse and also prevents the tooth from falling out.
Root Canal Treatment
Most root canal treatment may take between 1-3 visits to complete, depending on the extent of damage and how it presents. In a few cases, especially if there is an infection or pus formation in the tooth, it may take longer to heal and require more visits to complete. Do make an appointment to discuss your specific problem with our dentist.
Root Canal Damage
Discolouration, soreness, swollen and tender gums, and sensitivity to warm and cold food and drinks are all signs that you may need root canal treatment.
If the damage to teeth is too extensive (decay or trauma), the vital structures of your tooth may be compromised since all of these signs and symptoms might point to an infected pulp in the tooth.
The damages may range from reversible pulpitis to irreversible pulpitis in severe cases, and if the damage/trauma is left untreated, there can be complete necrosis of the pulp. Root canal treatment is necessary for this kind of damage.
Reversible pulpitis may be simply treated by eliminating the cause of the trauma and repairing the damage (e.g., teeth fillings). In the case of too much trauma and the nerve may not recover (diagnosed as irreversible pulpitis) or worse, there is necrosis of the pulp, the tooth will require root canal therapy to keep the tooth pain-free and maintain form and function.
Root Canal Treatment Aftercare
Your dentist will provide a list of aftercare procedures that ensure a speedy and complete recovery after your root canal treatment. This may include taking prescribed pain medications and avoiding eating hard and sticky foods or chewing solid food. Your dentist will also highly encourage you to continue practising good hygiene habits.
Should you experience any complications such as severe pain, bleeding, swelling, and the like, contact your dentist right away to get help.
